Our Pastor
OK. That is not a picture of our pastor, Rev. Anthony J. Iovine (he hates to have his picture taken; this is the best we could do on short notice).
Pastor Iovine has served at Saint Matthew’s since July 17, 2005. An avid reader, news junkie, and sports-aholic (a New York Yankees fan, is he), Iovine spends most of his time serving the people of Saint Matthew’s and in our New Milford community as Chaplain to the New Milford Volunteer Fire Department and as a member of the New Milford Senior Advisory Committee. He attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana between 2001 and 2005. During his seminary time, he served as Vicar at Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sayville, New York (Atlantic District). He grew up in Yonkers, New York and attended the now-closed Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (where he was baptized and confirmed) and the still-thriving Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yonkers.
“Of all that I could do in my position as pastor, I feel that I would have done a good job each day if I could tell just one person of the life and salvation that is theirs through faith alone in Jesus Christ, that God has forgiven them and loves them, and that there is always a loving home for them at Saint Matthew’s. That would make me happy,” said Pastor Iovine.
